Tuladaan

Tula
ā€œTULADAANā€ seva at Shri Raghav Govardhan Gaushala Samiti :

In ancient practice of Sanatan Dharma, Tula Daan holds a significance place as profound ritual of charity and healing. The term Tula Daan is derived from two Sanskrit words, ā€˜Tula meaning weight and ā€˜Daan’ meaning charity. This ritual involves an individual sitting on one side of a scale, while item such as wheat, rice, pluses or other grains are placed on other side, equivalent to their weight. The ritual is not just an act of balancing scales but a profound spiritual practice intended to balance the energies and karma of individual for whom it is performed.

Understanding the Tula Daan-

Tula Daan is an ancient and highly revered Hindu Tradition in which a person offers goods, food, grains, fruits, jaggery. Fodder or other items equal to their body weight as an act of devotion. That is called ā€œTULADAANā€. In Hindu tradition it is believed to bring divine blessings, remove obstacles and promote prosperity, health and spiritual well-being.

The significance of ritual-

The Tula Daan is recommended when a person suffers from diseases that are beyond the reach of medical science or are not diagnosable. It is believed that such ailments have roots in spiritual and karmic imbalance, which can be addressed through this powerful ritual. The process of Tula Daan is carried out by highly specialized individuals who have inherited this sacred technique form their ancestors, following the traditional rules of Sanatan Dharma meticulously.

Behind the story of Tuladaan-

Several legendry performances of Tula Daan are mentioned in ancient Indian text. As we know that in Mahabharata, king Shibi a descendant of king Bharata of Lunar dynasty, was tested by Indra and Agni. They approached Shibi in forms of an eagle and dove. The dove sought Shibi’s protection from the eagle who asked Shibi to give is flesh measure for measure in exchange for the dove’s life. Shibi, ready to offer anything to save the dove. Began slice off bits of himself. Even after much cutting, the balance scales did not move and when at last when Shibi himself stood on the scale of balance, the gods appeared to him and blessed him.

Another legend of the Tula Daan relates to Krishna and his Queen Rukmini and Satyabhama. In the Bhagwat Purana Satyabhama is described to have often attempted to prove her superiority over the other wives of Krishna, especially his principal wife Rukmini. The sage Narada once incited Satyabhama in to undertaking fast in which she had to donate her husband to the former and pay thee latter’s weight in gold to regain him. She had Krishna sit upon one side of the weighing scale and poured all of her jewellery upon the other end. The scale did not budge. Swallowing her pride, Satyabhama sought the assistance of Rukmini. Rukmini placed Tulsi leaf upon the other end of scale, regarded to represent her love for Krishna, which immediately balanced the scale.
